Prerequisite- Must completed the beginner course first. This 8-week program kicks off March 9th and concludes with a race on Sunday May 9th. Classes will meet on Wednesdays in the Maple Lawn neighborhood in Fulton, MD from 6:30pm-8:00pm and Sundays at various local parks from 11:00am-1:00pm. *PLEASE NOTE that will not be meeting the week spring break (April 11-18). REQUIRMENTS: All participants must be able to ride a bike confidently. We will cover skills necessary to handle trail riding but this course is designed to enhance a riders solid foundation. Our weekday sessions involve group discussions requiring all the kids to be able to listen and engage in meaningful dialogue for 20 or so minutes at a time. Included in the price: Instruction on everything from basic first aid, team work, mental resilience, conflict resolution, goal setting, problem solving, nutrition, self regulation, navigation, self reliance, and how to apply all these skills to their everyday lives. They will also receive a GRIT toolkit (handouts, worksheets, high quality compass, and first aid kit). Mandatory Gear that you must provide: - Trail worthy mountain bike. If you have any questions about what this means or need help obtaining one, please reach out and I'll be happy to assist you. If you cannon afford a bike, GRIT Adventures has a few bikes to loan out and there are local organizations such as Columbia Gear Closet that can loan out bikes as well. *PLEASE NOTE- Bikes must be in proper working order. It is recommended that they be inspected by a local shop prior to our first practice. Consider using Patapsco Bicycles who is one of our sponsors and will give a discount on parts and service. - Bike first aid kit (spare tube, mini pump, tire lever and multi tool) - Helmet - Closed toe shoes - Backpack for carrying water, food and supplies - Water bottle - Flashlight or headlight (this is only required for evening sessions if we have them) If you have any questions about these items feel free to reach out.
