Mental- Which of these four statements about lighting is not true?

  • Lightning can strike the same place multiple times:
Tall structures like the Empire State Building are often struck by lightning repeatedly.

  • Lightning can strike without rain:
"Bolts from the blue" can occur when lightning strikes from clear skies, far from the rain area of a storm.

  • Metal doesn't attract lightning:
While metal can conduct electricity once struck, it doesn't attract lightning more than other objects.

  • Seek shelter under trees during a lightning storm:
If lightning strikes a tree, the charge can travel through the trunk and harm anyone beneath it. The heat from a lightning strike can vaporize water inside a tree, causing it to explode.
